- Why did you choose the specific image(s)? (3 Marks)
I choose the first image of the two lost dogs wandering by themselves for an emotional impact, a representation of the problem and authenticity. Research shows that “owners could find 9 to 23% of lost dogs due to an ID tag.”[i] Many dogs go missing each year, and with success of finding them usually comes an ID tag. The image of a lost dog is relevant because this is a problem that many people face. It clearly conveys the risks associated with not having a high-quality dog tag that is made to last and represents the fear and uncertainty pet owners can feel or have felt before when their dogs go missing. The deserted area speaks volumes since when dogs are alone, they are vulnerable, reinforcing the idea of the importance of an ID tag and how it will stay alongside them leading to a quick search and rescue. This image aligns with the message behind the post which is “One Small Tag. A Big Difference” and is supported by additional text-based content “Lost pets without proper identification rarely make it home.” The image sets the stage on why durable ID tags are necessary. I wanted the image to be the focal point, meaning users can understand what I’m trying to say immediately through a high-quality image.
Additionally, I choose the second image because it’s showcasing not only responsible pet ownership but the security my audience can feel if they invest in a durable pet ID tag. I’m communicating exactly what I want pet owners to do through this image which is why choosing it was not only important it was necessary. Since my images are the focal point of the post, an owner looking at their dog ID tag highlights the importance of my tags. We learnt that “visuals increase retention by 42%.”(Briscoe, W9 – B-The Power of Visuals (W25).pdf, Slide 12). My carefully chosen image emphasizes the effectiveness of an ID tag and supports my message “A secure, engraved and durable Furever tag stays with your pet – helping them find their way back to you.” It was also a great choice because even if the words weren’t there, the image visually reinforces urgency and importance of proper identification. These were the best options for my visually driven blog post.
